Calèche real bride Kirsten and partner Brad celebrated their love amongst the picturesque backgrounds of Mclaren Vale. A fun and modern wedding with alpacas and a full dancefloor, Kirsten and Brad made sure the wedding reflected them.
Lets start at the beginning, when and how did you and your partner meet?
We met at my close friend’s 21st birthday in 2012. My husband Brad was invited so that we could meet and halfway through the night she introduced us. The rest is history!
Tell us about the proposal ..
While I was getting ready to go out for dinner Brad was frantically painting on our living room wall the words, “I think it’s time you two got married, love Shiloh”. He called out to me to come and see what our Labrador Shiloh had done and thinking the worst I ran to the living room where he pointed at the yellow paint on the wall. It took a while for it to click because it was such a blur! Luckily the house we were living in was due to get renovated!
The Dress! Tell us about your experience finding the dress .. How did you decide on the one?
When I pulled up at Calèche I saw this stunning A-line dress on a mannequin in the window and couldn’t wait to try it on. Once I put the sleeves on I did a bit of a dance in the change room and I was so excited! What made it even more magical was the dress was in my size, had only been on display for a few days, no other bride had tried it on and it felt like it was made for me. I did my due diligence though and tried on a few more in store but every time I put those sleeves on I got a giddy feeling and just knew it was the one! I had so many compliments about how the dress was, ‘perfectly me’.
Can you give us some details on your wedding location?
We got married at Mitolo Wines in McLaren Vale. We wanted somewhere that had great food and wine, a modern feel and the option of a dance floor under the stars. Mitolo ticked all those boxes for us and the team were a dream to work with.
What was your favourite moment of the day?
Having our first-look on the cliffs in between Port Willunga/Maslins Beach. It really calmed our nerves for the ceremony and gave us extra time to enjoy the moment together and with our bridal party. Also our dance floor was epic, we had a 7 piece brass band – ‘The Cast’ and they blew everyone away. There wasn’t an empty moment on the dance floor the entire night.
Hens Day! If you had one, please tell us all about it!
My beautiful bridesmaids organised a “hensfest” for me and it was a Woodstock/70’s theme. We spent the afternoon at my parent’s place with cocktails, a grazing board and an appearance from Paddy who was on Ali’s season of the Bachelorette. We ended the night at a burlesque fringe show which was awesome.
Lastly, is there any advice or words of wisdom you have for future brides?
Make sure the day reflects you and your husband to be and that you incorporate the things you want. We had alpacas just for something different and the reception they received was exactly what we thought – our guests thought it was weird initially then decided it was hilarious and then spent cocktail hour taking selfies with them. They were an absolute highlight and our guests loved them! Also try to pause a few times throughout the day and night just to take a moment, look around and let it all sink in. You won’t regret it.
