ALYSSA & ROBERT

Calèche real bride Alyssa and partner Rob’s boy meets girl love story led to a beautifully romantic and intimate wedding to celebrate the happily ever after couple. After a traditional church ceremony the couple stopped for portraits amongst the trendy bars of Adelaide’s peel street, followed by a relaxed reception at the industrial Plant 4. Lets start at the beginning, when and how did you and your partner meet?

It was quite simple really – boy and girl meet, fall in love and as cliché as it sounds, the rest is history! I was 19 years old, I was out on the town with my friends and this charming, confident young man approached me to “tell me a story.” I’m fairly sure he made the story up on the spot and used it as an excuse to introduce himself, but I thought he was both funny and very sweet. We exchanged phone numbers and before we knew it, we were inseparable.

Tell us about the proposal ..

We had been in a relationship for 8 years and living together for a year. Let’s just say I was very patient! In September of 2019 he had me meet with the jeweller to decide on the style of the ring, determine my ring size, and I even got to choose the diamond. The next 5 months were gruelling, wondering if and when he was going to propose. He decided to do it on February 15th 2020, he took me to Shiki restaurant and booked a beautiful room at the Intercontinental. I don’t want to say I was expecting it, but it felt very special, and he was acting strangely nervous so I knew this was no ordinary night. He got down on one knee with the ring in his hand once we got to our room and I was absolutely over the moon!

The Dress! Tell us about your experience finding the dress .. How did you decide on the one?

I’m going to let you in on a secret, I only tried on Calèche dresses! The week after I got engaged, I had brunch with my mum and my sister and we had some spare time afterwards, so we thought we would just pop in and see what was out there. Our first stop, Caleche! We didn’t have an appointment, but the girls were so kind and allowed me to try dresses on that day as they had the availability. I fell in love with all the fabrics and styles and I knew I wanted to have my dress made by Calèche. I’m not going to lie, I found it extremely hard to decide and I changed my mind, multiple times! I could not visualise exactly what I wanted, I needed to see it on to know it was the one. The dress I chose was a sample from the rack which I had made to measure. I fell in love with the sparkle and the boning in the bodice. As soon as I put it on, I felt so feminine and glamorous. Wendy was absolutely amazing, I loved every fitting, she made me feel so comfortable and the whole process was a breeze. It really was a dream come true.

Can you give us some details on your wedding location?

We always knew we wanted to be married in the catholic church. The Monastery was the perfect location as it is a stunning church and it’s surrounded by peaceful gardens. The reception was held at Plant 4 Bowden, which was an absolute dream. Marlee was so easy to work with! The venue provided an open, trendy and relaxed feel but it was also so incredibly stunning at night with the gorgeous fairy lights overhead. The floral table centrepieces and candles also gave it a very soft and romantic feel which was exactly what I wanted. Francesco’s Cicchetti put on an amazing feast of delicious food which everyone raved about!

What was your favourite moment of the day?

It’s so hard to choose one moment. The ceremony was so special. It was perfect. Our first dance was particularly memorable because for that one moment, it felt like it was just the two of us in the room and I just wanted it to last forever.

Hens Day! If you had one, please tell us all about it!

Well, my bridesmaids did throw me one, I did have a few too many limoncello shots, and I did have a very restful (and early) night. I was probably the best behaved hen that has ever lived, if you ask me! My husband was thrilled, literally.

Lastly, is there any advice or words of wisdom you have for future brides?

Trust in your suppliers, the people you have hired to do their jobs. They are amazing at what they do and are so talented. I learnt the hard way that you just shouldn’t stress over things that you can’t control. Also, don’t ask for too many opinions on things, it will make you lose your mind and change it constantly! Trust yourself and don’t get distracted by what other people do.
