Lets start at the beginning, when and how did you and your partner meet?
We met at Uni about 10 years ago.
Tell us about the proposal ..
Well it actually came as a complete surprise – sure we’d talked about getting married (as one would expect 8 years, one house and two fur babies later!), but I really had no idea it was coming. After arranging a surprise birthday brunch for me with both of our families, we all went back to our place for cake, which is when he put on the sweetest slide show of pictures of our life together and then finished down on one knee proposing! It was quite emotional, and so special having our close family there, and of course he’d gone and had the most beautiful ring made for me!
The Dress! Tell us about your experience finding the dress .. How did you decide on the one?
I was very indecisive! I went to several places and tried on numerous dresses – went back and tried them on again! I had an idea about what I liked but found it really difficult to find a style I was 100% sold on and felt confident would fit properly. And that is why I eventually chose to have my dress made at Calèche – I was able to take a design, modify it to make it that little bit more ‘me’ and feel confident in the made to measure fit. There was one particular dress I had quite loved when I first tried it on, and when I went back, the staff at caleche helped me to make a few changes that made it exactly what I was after. And it didn’t stop there… I honestly can’t speak highly enough of my experience through all my fittings – I made several other changes along the way and they really went above and beyond to quell my fears about the strapless nature of my dress! (Even making me some detachable straps for later in the night – not that I needed them because the dress fit so well!)
Can you give us some details on your wedding location?
We got married on my parents property in the Barossa Valley. They have a beautiful spot on the property, in amongst some gumtrees, looking out over vineyards and rolling hills. This is where we had our ceremony and then we had a marquee set up for the reception right next to it. It felt quite special to get married where I grew up, and now we have so many good memories of all the work we did on the property to get in ready in the many months leading up. It was certainly a lot to organise, setting up a wedding in what was essentially a paddock, and thank goodness for Chelsea from Barossa Styling and Events who made it all come together and look so beautiful on the day!
What was your favourite moment of the day?
The whole day went so quickly and was a bit of a blur, so it was actually really nice ducking away for ‘sunset’ photos (it was so overcast, we had no sunset). We got to have a bit of down time together and then as we came back, getting to actually stand back and see the whole wedding area and all of our guests enjoying the reception was really nice.
Hens Day! If you had one, please tell us all about it!
Oh my lovely bridesmaids did such a great job organising my hens day with minimal cooperation from me! At the time of organising I really wasn’t sure if the wedding was going ahead due to Covid restrictions so I was very unenthusiastic.. But we had a beautiful day in the Barossa with wine & chocolate tastings, lunch at Saltrams and then a cocktail making class at a friends house before dinner and cocktails in the city!
Lastly, is there any advice or words of wisdom you have for future brides?
Try to figure out a rough timeline for your day as soon as you know the date and make sure you’re allowing enough time to do all the things you want to do, when you want to do them. We had a later ceremony at 5pm, which we thought was a great idea until we started trying to work out how to have sunset photos, dinner at a reasonable time and not miss too much key time with our guests. But of course, also be prepared to go with the flow, you never know what curve ball is going to be thrown at you on the day.
