KAYLA & JONATHON

Lets start at the beginning, when and how did you and your partner meet?
We met at Plant 4 Bowden. I was selling ice cream for my sister and was moving interstate to Queensland 5 days later. We saw each other every day before I left and then began the start of a long-distance relationship. I reflect and admire that about us because we created a strong foundation by becoming really good friends before we were able to physically be with each other compared to a usual dating relationship.

Tell us about the proposal ..
Jonathon took me on a small, very cheap surprise holiday… to the Whitsundays, Hayman Island. I had no idea where I was going or what we were doing. The morning of the proposal he had organised a very casual not extreme couples massage, followed by a private helicopter ride with a picnic on Whitehaven beach, where he proposed. We got back to the hotel room where a beautiful bunch of flowers, champagne and dinner were waiting, a 7 course degustation in our very own bungalow over looking the ocean.

The Dress! Tell us about your experience finding the dress .. How did you decide on the one?
I always knew I wanted to go to Calèche because they bring a wonderful experience in Adelaide to find “the one”. I went there not really knowing what I wanted however, within the first hour we managed to work out the style, material, and design. So custom it was! My mother-in-law actually got her dress from Caleche 30+ years ago which we recently found out as she was showing me her dress just after the wedding. Very special.

Can you give us some details on your wedding location?
It was something out of a fairy tale. We got married at Jonathon’s parent’s property in Aldgate. We always knew we wanted to get married outdoors in nature. Having it at our home made it all the more sentimental.

What was your favourite moment of the day?
My favourite moment of the day was when we escaped the beautiful chaos to have our sunset photos. We had a moment to be with one another and connect as the day was done. There were two beautiful birds flying over us and an overwhelming sensation of being in the right place.

Hens Day! If you had one, please tell us all about it!
My bridesmaids know I am not one for the stereotypical Hens day. They organised a beautiful long lunch down at Barristers Block, where there was an acoustic musician and saxophone playing the background. We had wine and a few interactive games followed by meeting the Bucks at Prohibition for some fine gin!

Lastly, is there any advice or words of wisdom you have for future brides?
Try not to sweat the small stuff. Know that what seems like a big deal, stressful or hard, instantly goes away on the day and never comes back! Be present with each day and remember that you and your fiancé are on the same side. Take it all in and do what makes you happy.
