Calèche dress at the 2014 Magarey Medal

PrintOn the 1st September, Calèche had the pleasure of dressing Chloe Galpin for the Magarey Medal Awards night. Chloe is one of the very first people to be photographed in one of our Private Collection evening dresses, personalised with her own choice of sparkly 3D motifs over the shoulder straps on the dress. As you can see from the photo she looked beautiful on the night, perfect for showing off this evening dress!

Ruby Jubilee parade at the Art Gallery of SA

Calèche celebrated our 40th birthday in glamorous style recently with a couture fashion parade at The Art Gallery of South Australia.

Finesse Models perched elegantly within each gallery at the entrance to the venue in dresses representing the last 4 decades of production – after 40 years of producing exquisite gowns and designs for the most discerning women we searched far and wide, unearthing some great styles!  Our invited guests were treated to Hesketh Wines and Art Gallery Food and Wine hospitality as they awaited the parade. caleche40th-131        caleche40th-133

Backstage was a hive of activity with the team dressing 8 Finesse models in the stunning new Evening & Cocktail collection, our Ruby bridal collection and finally a new collection of especially intricate bridal Couture dresses, found only at our Norwood store

Of course we couldn’t celebrate our Ruby Jubilee without featuring a ruby dress. Made of delicately beaded French Chantilly, Rouge satin and silk satin Chiffon it glided down the catwalk elegantly worn by Laura.

Host Jane Reilly congratulated our South Australian company for 40 strong years after its’ establishment by Colette Foubert in 1973. She also commented on just how special Calèche made the experience of creating her own custom gown for the night, and remarked on how comfortable it was to wear.

Speaking also on the night and representing the Foubert family, Eric made a special thank you to the women who have enjoyed dressing in our hand-crafted designs, made locally in the Norwood design rooms, over the past 40 years and paid tribute to the vision and hard work of his parents.

Our designer Liz watched from the sidelines with husband Herve Foubert (thanks to Jacek capturing this photo) and couldn’t be persuaded to appear under the spotlights until a beautiful bouquet from Burnside Village Flowers was presented to her. As our guests left the venue we were delighted with their reaction to the show and it was lovely for all our team to get such direct feedback for all their hard work.

Our exclusive evening wear is being sold at our store in Norwood, and like all of our pieces is made to order which means you can purchase off the rack, include fittings or use them as inspiration for your own unique outfit.

New evening wear collection launch at the Art Gallery of South Australia

At last, we can announce our collection!

At a time when industry veterans are retiring, Calèche is launching a stylish evening wear and investment piece collection at our 40th anniversary celebrations. Our South Australian company has built a strong reputation of expertise in design and fit; now we’re excited to bring this new collection to the women of South Australia.

On Wednesday 13th August we are proudly presenting our Bridal, Evening wear and specialised Couture collections at an event celebrating our 40th Anniversary, held at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

I can’t wait to bring you photos of the night – right now we are busy little bees getting the finishing touches done on these new dresses. Exciting times for the team at Calèche!

Is your after sales service included in the price of your wedding dress?

Have you ever stood in a shop fitting room and known, really known, that when the sales assistant said “that looks so great on you!” that she was lying? I have, so when it comes to the wedding dress it can be just so much worse. It’s just not helpful for a bride when there is so much to choose from and it is such a big investment. At what other time would you really consider spending so much on one item of clothing? It doesn’t even make it into the ‘price per wear’ calculations as you know this is one special dress for one day.

When it comes to your wedding dress, take your time. Don’t be fooled by pushy sales people who want to make a sale, then forget the (nearly more important) after sales service. Ask questions and expect answers – if you are buying an imported gown it will need to be altered to fit you properly, even if it’s only to get the right hem length. You should be able to get an approximate quote for alterations on these kinds of gowns, and be insistent that you do, as the wedding dress that seems like a bargain will not be when you add the high alteration fees onto it!

All these questions will make you feel much more certain when you’re ready to put down the deposit and will take a load off your mind.

Welcome to the Calèche blog

Calèche creates hand-crafted wedding and evening dresses in our Adelaide design room and we stock selected boutiques in Australia and New Zealand. But if you’ve had a look around our website I’m really hoping that you might have known this already! So who are the people creating these dresses? What do we know? I’d like to introduce you to our whole team over time but that’s a little too much when you first meet someone – so here are the basics.

We have a team of about 15 dedicated specialist dressmakers; while we all know a lot about making clothes we’ve also got our own areas of expertise like cutting fabric, making patterns, sewing and hand finishing. Calèche is a family based business that is now in its 4th decade of trading which we’re really proud of, especially in this industry.

I’ll be blogging about how we all work together, introducing our team behind the cream/gold curtain, and using all our years of experience here to give advice about weddings, styling and whatever you might ask of us! We all think our knowledge should be shared since not many people choose to have a dress made for them nowadays and that’s a shame, as it can be a really great experience.
